Message to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the publication of Shandong Science
Time flies, time flies like a shuttle. In 1984, after the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Shandong Academy of Sciences, in order to better showcase its scientific research strength and characteristics, the Academy decided to establish an internal scientific and technological journal and named it Journal of the Shandong Academy of Sciences. With the increasing influence of the journal in the field of science and technology in Shandong Province, it obtained the official publication number (CN 37-1188/N; ISSN 1002-4026) on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Provincial Academy of Sciences in 1989 and was also renamed as Shandong Science.
Since its establishment, Shandong Science has worked hard for forty years, always adhering to the academic, forward-looking, and practical purpose of publishing, showcasing the scientific research characteristics and achievements of the sponsoring unit. With the support and correct leadership of the Shandong Academy of Sciences, Shandong Science has continuously expanded its academic perspective and strengthened its advantageous disciplinary direction. With the joint efforts of previous editorial boards, expert readers, and several generations of editorial staff members, Shandong Science has become a core journal with extensive influence in the field of natural sciences in China. It has published 36 volumes, 186 issues, and more than 3 000 scientific and technological papers. While showcasing the scientific research characteristics and achievements of the sponsoring unit, it has also played an important role in leading scientific and technological progress, promoting disciplinary development, and promoting academic exchanges. It is worth mentioning that in 2017, the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Government decided to integrate the Shandong Academy of Sciences and Qilu University of Technology to establish a new type of science and education integration institution - Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences). After the integration of science and education, the scientific research and teaching capabilities of the school (Academy of Sciences) have made rapid progress. As of 2023, seven disciplines including engineering, chemistry, materials science, agricultural science, environmental science and ecology, computer science, and biology and biochemistry have been selected as the top 1% of ESI disciplines. These disciplines are an important component of the 13 characteristic columns set up by Shandong Science, reflecting the resonance between the publication direction of Shandong Science and the advantageous disciplinary fields of the school (academy). Collaborative development has played a window and bridge role in promoting the promotion of scientific research achievements and academic dissemination.
After 40 years of innovative development, Shandong Science has achieved a full process digital acquisition, editing, and publishing method, improved production efficiency, shortened publishing cycles, and made significant progress in network dissemination, publishing timeliness, and academic influence. According to the 2022 Annual Report on the Impact Factors of Chinese Academic Journals (Natural Science and Engineering Technology Edition), the Impact Index (CI value) of Shandong Science ranks 49th among all 285 journals in the comprehensive category of natural science and engineering technology. Since 2010, it has been included in the list of China's core science and technology journals, and has been selected for the "2020 China Fine Journals Exhibition" at the 27th Beijing International Book Expo (BIBF). It has also been selected as an excellent science and technology journal in the 2022 China University Science and Technology Journal Construction Demonstration Case Library. It has been awarded the title of Innovation Service Demonstration Unit for Professional Content Knowledge Aggregation Service Platform and the 2023 Publishing Integration Innovation Award by Bokan. At the same time, Shandong Science also focuses on international exchange and cooperation, actively aligning with internationally renowned databases, and continuously improving the international influence of the journal. It is included in international databases such as Chemical Abstracts in the United States, Ulrich Journal Guide in the United States, and Copernicus Index in Poland. This not only recognizes the academic quality of the journal, but also provides strong support for the journal to enter the international stage.
40 years of trials and tribulations, 40 years of spring and autumn harvest. Every step of the growth of Shandong Science cannot be separated from the support and love of the authors, reviewers, and readers, which embodies the hard work and dedication of the authors, editorial board, and editorial department.
