Abstract:

We employed indoor Petri dish bioassay analysis to determine the allelopathic effect of seeds and seedlings of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi impacted by different concentration (0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0 g/L) and one year or two years old Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge f. alba C.Y.Wu et H.W.Li and Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge. Experimental results show that aqueous extracts of rhizome of S. miltiorrhiza Bge. f. alba and S. miltiorrhiza exhibit similar effects on seed germination rate, germination index and vigor index of S. baicalensis. Lower concentration aqueous extracts of rhizome can promote seed germination while higher concentration aqueous extracts hinder germination (especially for the concentration of 5 g/L). The absolute value of allelopathic index of S. miltiorrhiza Bge.f. alba to seed germination rate is less than that of S. miltiorrhiza. The aqueous extracts of rhizome of S. miltiorrhiza Bunge f. alba and S. miltiorrhiza show similar impacts on seedling height and root length of S. baicalensis. Higher concentration aqueous extracts of rhizome significantly restrain fresh weight of seedlings. The absolute value of allelopathic index of S. miltiorrhiza Bge. f. alba to seedling height and fresh weight of S. baicalensis is less than that of S. miltiorrhiza. All aqueous extracts of rhizome of S. miltiorrhiza Bge. f. alba and S. miltiorrhiza exhibit promotion effect of lower concentration and restraint effect of higher concentration to the seed germination and seedling growth of S. baicalensis. Moreover, the allelopathic potency of S. miltiorrhiza Bge. f. alba to S. baicalensis is less than that of S. miltiorrhiza. The paper therefore can provide scientific basis for the optimization of compound planting pattern.
