Arrival time filling method based on bus operation data

Abstract: Realtime bus arrival data are the basis of passenger travel behavior analysis,however, the existing bus operation data have the problem of missing arrival time data. Based on real-time bus arrival data, this study combines the operating characteristics of buses and congestion propagation, and it establishes a polynomial interpolation method that considers multi-factor weighting to fill the missing data values of bus arrival times. The filled arrival time can describe the vehicle operation process in more detail and obtain more accurate vehicle arrival interval. The proposed method is then used to complement the Beijing transit bus operation data, and a revised timetable is thus obtained. The bus operation interval and the phenomenon of bus bunching are analyzed with the updated timetable.
