Abstract: We present pallet pool system applicable to Chinese railway freight characteristics to improve pallet availability efficiency, save resources, and reduce cost in railway containerization transport. We analyze the cost of different pallet employment, and quantitatively analyze economic benefits of every participant in the railway pallet pool system. We also compute and assess its indirect economic benefits and social benefits. Our work can provide a theoretical basis for future railway pallet containerization transportation and even the entire logistics system.
