Abstract:
We developed a novel rotating arc horizontal wielding technology. Previous results indicated that this technology could effectively control the molten pool behavior of horizontal wielding, and eliminate the negative of wielding slit sinking. This paper further investigates the impact ductility of the novel rotating arc narrow gap horizontal GMAW joint of the 12Ni3CrMoV steel. Results demonstrate that the average impact energy of the base material, heat affected zone (HAZ) and wield zone is 236 J, 212.2 J and 115.4 J when temperature is 0℃. The impact ductility of HAZ only approximately decreases 10.2%, as compared with that of the base material. This shows that the thermal cycle of rotating arc narrow gap horizontal GMAW does not significantly deteriorate the ductility of the base material.
