Abstract: We propose a realtime lossless data compression technology forbit splicing, LZW and improved LZW combined approach to reduce transmission time and cost of the communications system of an ocean data buoy. Its average compression ratio is less than 40%, which can reduce communication time.Practical application shows that this technology improves data compression ratio, reduces communication cost and guarantees system reliability.

Key words: ocean data buoy, LZW, data compression, bit splicing, improved LZW
