Abstract:

We construct the finite element model of the sound field of a muffler, impose the corresponding boundary conditions on the boundary of the model, and calculate the transmission loss of different structure parameters to investigate the impacts of different structure parameters on the performance of a muffler. Computational results show that the microperforated pipe of 20 mm can suppress the noise of 3~6 kHz. The length of single tube is nine times of quarter-wavelength and the entire tube has three-stage structure. The holes on the tube are square with diameter of 0.4 mm and opening rate of 4.8%.

Key words: muffler, finite element method, microperforated panel, transmission loss
